Reconnect is a new project we are delivering at our Creative Hub in Newport. It is a one-year project, funded by the NHS Mental Health Trust and it aims to provide a range of creative sessions to help people, especially young people who may be experiencing anxiety or low mood as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The sessions are led by artists, not clinicians. The sessions are aimed at four age groups:
Sessions are run in a rolling programme of six-week blocks (six weeks per person) and should be seen as a stepping stone to reconnect and empower participants socially. Participation is free.
So far, the groups have experimented with sound, visual and digital arts. The groups are encouraged to develop their own creative voice and each group works towards a common goal which may be celebrated at an event held at our Creative Hub.
If you, or someone you know, would like to find out more and to have a chat with us in complete confidence, do telephone Kerry Weston, Elaine Sheldrake or Hannah Griffiths on 01983 822437 or email [email protected]
This two-minute video was created by our first cohort of 20-25 year olds and shown at our Hub Hosts event to all participants in November.
As part of their work looking at their place in the world, they created this piece of work, 'One World', combining poetry, digital art and spoken word.
